Kaya is a Red-tailed Hawk that was admitted to the Birds of Prey Foundation in the summer of 2011 as a hatch year bird. She had collided with a truck and suffered severe head trauma. She was completely helpless when she arrived and could not even feed herself nor could she see due to the swelling in her face. Due to the severity of the trauma, she had to relearn everything from how to feed herself to learning to fly again. Unfortunately, she never completely recovered cognitively. Because of this she is unable to be released back into the wild. Amazingly, despite never having raised her own chicks, she has made a wonderful foster parent for our young orphaned Red-tailed Hawks.
