BIRDS OF PREY FOUNDATION VOLUNTEER RULES OF CONDUCT

The BOP volunteer corps has been formed to serve recuperating raptors. The nature of our program does not necessitate the handling of the birds. Most of our work is cleaning, maintaining buildings, new construction, office work and the maintenance of rodent, rabbit and quail facilities. The following rules of conduct have been established to maximize the return of our raptors to the wild.

  • Touring the facility is prohibited. We are a hospital, not a zoo.
  • Our location must be kept confidential and secure from all types of intrusion. Please report any irregularities to Staff or a Senior Volunteer as soon as possible.
  • Only the officers, or specifically designated staff and senior volunteers may act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Photographs and/or written word may not be printed or published without express written consent of the Director.
  • BE QUIET!! Our facility is a hospital; loud conversation or excessive noise stresses wildlife and will not be tolerated.
  • Children and pets are not allowed on the premises at any time.
  • The ICU is closed to all volunteers, with the exception of volunteers, staff or interns who are specifically designated by Sigrid.
  • All new volunteers must take orientation classes as they become available. Membership dues are much appreciated, but not mandatory. We regard your contribution of time a valuable asset!
  • Boulder County is our landlord and host. The terms of the lease shall be honored by all members and volunteers. Also, we are not the only tenants at Rock Creek Farm; please respect the rights and privileges of others.
  • Conduct detrimental to the birds or the organization’s well being will be considered cause for dismissal.
  • All rules and decisions are made for the benefit of our birds--volunteers, members and others are given secondary consideration.
  • All volunteer time must be scheduled. Please call and leave a message and we will return your call.
  • Once again, our primary interest is in the recovery of the birds. We retain our success in returning raptors to the wild by ensuring the birds have limited contact with people. The birds are handled only when absolutely necessary, and only by people who have received special training that allows them to do so.

BOP is not liable for any personal injury incurred by volunteers at the Facilities or while acting as a representative of BOP.
