Northern Pygmy Owl
The Northern Pygmy Owl is one of the smallest owls that call Colorado home. These owls are mostly dark brown and white, with long tails, smoothly rounded heads with rarely seen feather tufts, and piercing yellow eyes. This little owl is most active during the day and can often be seen perching on the tops of conifer trees waiting patiently for prey. They will eat small rodents but prefer songbirds. These little owls call Colorado mountain forests home.
This little cutie was found by a kind motorist along the side of a road. Look at the difference only 2 days makes. He is eating and recovering well in an incubator with heat and oxygen.
After a short stay out at our flight enclosure, he was released back into the wild near Estes Park.
