Merlin (Falco columbarius)
Description
Merlins are small falcons with brown eyes, a blue-gray beak, and yellow cere and legs. Their chest is a buffy color with darker streaks, while their back and wings are darker. The tail is dark with lighter bands.
Diet
Small birds make up the majority of their diet, though they will also prey on insects, small rodents and bats.
Migration
Merlins can be found in Colorado in the winter. They migrate north for the breeding season.
Breeding
Merlins are typically monogamous and use old crow or hawk nests rather than building their own.
